Release Notes
Latest version: 1.2.1
What's new in each version of Craterio. To update, download the latest installer from the
Craterio homepage and run it — your pads, saved sites and license
carry over.
1.2.1 — October 2026
New
- Stem separation is free to try: split your pad into vocals, bass, drums and other
and switch the stems on and off on the free version. Exporting isolated stems comes with a license
- Copy and paste in the built-in browser (⌘C, ⌘V, ⌘X, ⌘A, ⌘Z)
Fixed
- Signing in to sites in the built-in browser now stays signed in after switching to APPS or
reopening the plugin
- Typing in the built-in browser: no more lost characters, and Backspace deletes one letter at a time
- Typing an address without “https://” works
1.2 — October 2026
New
- Pro Tools: Craterio now comes as an AAX plugin too. Insert it on an audio or
instrument track; pads play from MIDI, and everything else works as in your other DAWs
The installer adds the AAX plugin alongside the AU, VST3 and standalone app; your license works in
all of them.
1.1 — October 2026
New
- Stem separation: press Stems on a pad to split its take into vocals,
bass, drums and other. Each stem gets its own colour on the waveform and its own on/off switch, live
while the pad plays; Alt-click a switch to solo that stem
- Dragging a pad into your session exports just the stems you left on, named after them
- Stems are saved with your project and come back when you reopen it
- Separation runs entirely on your Mac — nothing is uploaded
- The version number is now shown in Settings
Improved
- Sites you log in to in the browser now stay logged in between sessions
- Two Craterio instances in one project can show two different pages
- Craterio uses far less disk space over time
- The window can be scaled down to 75%, and Settings closes with Esc or its close button
- Moving the vari-speed wheel on a synced pad switches SYNC off, so what you export is what you hear
Fixed
- The browser could occasionally open in a separate window outside the plugin
Stem separation comes with a license. The installer is larger than before (about 250 MB) because
the separation model is included.
1.0 — September 2026
New
- Tempo detection: every pad shows its BPM, with beat and bar lines on the waveform
- SYNC: pads follow your DAW's tempo, live as it changes — and the sampler shows the
DAW's current tempo
- SNAP: trim markers snap to the beat grid
- Dragging a synced pad into your session exports it already at the project tempo, lined up on the bars
- Switching from APPS to WEB now pauses the music app you were capturing, instead of leaving it playing
- Recordings are named after the song or web page you captured, in
~/Music/Craterio Recordings
Improved
- Pads play at their correct speed and pitch whatever your session's sample rate
- Lower CPU with the plugin window open, and steadier playback when triggering pads from MIDI
- The APPS list no longer offers the DAW Craterio is running in
Fixed
- A looping pad now follows its trim markers as you move them
- Reopening the plugin window keeps the app you're capturing on screen
- Deactivating a license on a Mac now stays deactivated
SYNC and SNAP come with a license; tempo detection and the beat grid are free.
0.9 — September 2026
The first public release.
- A web browser inside your DAW, as an AU or VST3 plugin or a standalone app —
whatever plays on the page comes out on the plugin's track
- APPS: capture audio from other apps running on your Mac
- A 16-pad sampler: record what you hear, or drop in audio files; trim, loop, clip gain
and lofi modes
- Drag a pad's waveform straight into your session as a WAV
- MIDI Learn per pad, with velocity, and pitch-bend vari-speed
- Saved sites, and a signed, notarized macOS installer
- Free forever with one pad; a license unlocks all 16 pads, unlimited saved sites, MIDI Learn
and vari-speed
